Counselling Framework

Pastoral care is an holistic approach by which the school attempts to meet the personal/social, emotional and intellectual needs of every pupil, in order that each might participate fully and gain maximum benefit from everything the school has to offer.

1. Foundation

1.1 Beliefs and Philosophy

  • The school counsellor believes every student can learn and that all students both globally and locally have an equal right and opportunity (School values) to access to a school counsellor and to participate in any school counselling/guidance development programs designed according to our school mission to promote a caring and socially responsible environment conducive to students’ quality learning and their future gainful employment.
  • The following principles are the foundation for the school counseling program:
  • All students’ ethnic, cultural, racial differences and special needs are consider into planning and implementing the program.
    - There is a collaborative effort among the school counselor, administrators and teachers to coordinate with parents.
    - Assessments are used to develop and continually evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

1.2 Mission Statement

Our mission is to facilitate each student’s personal/social, academic and career development through the counsellor’s delivery of guidance and counselling activities as well as through a collaborative effort between the home and school. The ultimate objective is to help students identify their interests and abilities, and enhance productivity, decision-making and conflict-resolution skills along with other competencies that will remediate student deficits, strengthen their unique capabilities and enable the youth to participate in a global society as responsible citizens.

 


 

2. Delivery System

2.1 Guidance Development Workshop

The guidance development workshop consists of structured developmental lessons designed to provide all students with the knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level.

2.2 Responsive Services

Responsive services are the duties of a school counsellor, consist of activities meeting individual students’ immediate needs, usually necessitated by life events or situations and conditions in the students’ lives. These needs require counselling, consultation, referral, peer mediation or information.

2.3 Pre-admission counseling

Provide student with course information and advice to guide students prior to enrolment. Also to provide student with information and advice to assist adjustment to living and studying in Singapore, that includes on going welfare, health, and support services.

 


 

3. Accountability

3.1 Results Reports

This is to ensure programs are carried out, analyzed for effectiveness and modified as needed.

3.2 School Counsellor Performance Standards

Students will to fill in an evaluation form annually. These performance standards should serve as both a basis for counselor evaluation and as a means for counselor self-evaluation.

3.3 Program evaluation

The purpose for collecting information is to guide future action within the program.
